Hi All,

Just finished replacing my water pump, thermostat, hoses and cap on my 84 Aspy. The old pump was so worn out it was scrubbing against the cover and pushing water into the oil sump. Funny thing is no water was coming out of the weep hole. That's usually the first sign of a pump that's going south. The temperature was always at 7 bars no matter the outside temp or engine load. I'm now getting 4-5 bars around town, 5 solid at 70mph and I got 5-6 bars at 80mph on the interstate, all at outside temps of 85+F. I don't think the head gaskets are leaking since I never got any exhaust bubbles or oil in the water, only water in the oil. Mebbe I dodged the bullet, but I'm checking to be sure the water level doesn't drop and oil level doesn't rise.

Your temp bars are just about where mine are...maybe you did catch it in time!

If you don't see any red flags in a week or so of riding, I think you're set.

Yep, and that weep hole on mine was clogged solid with sludge...no indication of a problem....until I wiggled the impeller during the timing belt change.

Good idea to clean out the weep hole as a part of yearly maintenance. Mine was clogged too.
