I'm about to put my '88 1500 on the market and would like to buff and shine the valve cover. What would be the best way to get at them, take them off or remove the "crash bar"; do they even come off? And once exposed how do you shine them up? By the way, I bought a 05 1800-

Thanks, Jim

I've restored half a dozen Goldwingrocker covers with a buffin wheel and polishing compound. They can be pretty well gone and ugly and brought back to a chrome like finish. You'll need a good bench grinder and an 8" wheel to get serious on a badly corroded piece. It's a lot easier to do a decent job with the covers off the engine.
