Just called my local dealer here in Hot
springs, asked about a rebuild kit for the front master cyl for my 1100. would you believe they want $274 for the kit,"but that includes everything" she says. I looked online, and Old Bike Barn has the kit for $24.95 and a reservior kit for $54.95 .what else could Honda include for that price? Wil they rebuild it for me?? Don't think so.

Hate to say it but... it's all part of that simple but atrocious word, GREED!

I stopped in a local dealer for R-front brake pads. Dude got the number &quickly turnedto get'em. Before he got to far I ask how much are they? He says $49.99. I said I wanted only one set,the right side. He says, they are. I stopped him rather quickly saying, "Ummm, at that price, you better keep'em".

The killer was, his boss was making out an orderon their PC &hedidn't even budge. NOT EVEN an offer of a better price by (fake) looking in the books a second time.

So since I had time before pads wore to the rotorI searched Ebay. Now I have all 3 sets for $43.50 (w-shipping),and there Kevlars, not organics!

What amazes me is, Honda car set(4 pads) are twice as big and
cost UNDER:clapper:$10.00 ! ! !

I gave a fleeting thought to buying the car pads & reshape to fit but the Ebay pad price is hard to beat.

Thanks mama-Honda :shock:for the "attempted" price gouge.

SHEEEEESH!

Update. I called another dealer up north of me, he gave me a price of $53.42. for the kit. Told me an entire front master is only $219.00 brand new. Either someone doesn't know how to look up parts or they are REAL greedy.

Now as another member says "Rant over" thanx

Howard, I replaced the reservoir and rebuilt the mc on the 81 a few years ago with parts from BikeBandit for about 50 dollars. Andy (Lopeha) replaced his front mc with a newer type that he got off of e-bay that looks better than stock and works better than stock for about 60 dollars. That would be the way I'll go on the 81 when I decide to put it back on the road.:)

Stephanie (I think is her name) at Johns Honda is pretty good at her job, she may have misunderstood what you wanted or the parts catalog actually has that price on the kit. You never know about parts prices, some bean counter just grabs a price out of thin air and types it into the catalog. We see it all the time on Honda car parts, same part under different numbers and totally different price, sometimes extremely different. I wouldn't go to Johns for a bike or service but the parts people have treated me well.

Curious:

Isn't here a MASTER parts catalog and on pricing then all dealers work off of those, then markup or down, for their final prices? This pricing can't be much different than Ace Hardware, individually owned stores.

I suspect she misunderstood what you wanted and was giving you a price to rebuild your master and install it.

Yes there is and dealers have the option of changing the prices by a percentage or the parts person can just make something up depending if they like you or not.;)

Being as big as Wal-y World is, might look deeper into it's forward thinking.

Are they getting ready for something in the future we customers haven't seen coming, yet?

Let's keep an eye on Wal-y Worlds crystal ball.... & report back.
