Delo-400

I used Rotella last oil change, made the tranny slightly clunky when shifting. Bought a gallon of the Delo-400 tonight at the Walmart. I looked at the circle on the back it has the following:

Top part of circle: API ServiceCJ-4/SM

Middle: SAE 15w-40

Bottom: CI-4 PLUS

This was the only DELO-400 they carried. I think it said something like Delo-400 LE. I thought I remember reading that there isnt supposed to be anything in the bottom part of the circle. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks in advance...

That's what I'm using and haven't had a problem with it yet in 4 oil changes. Really smooths out the shifting for me.

Your okay... and that is the stuff I use... If I can find the API symbols, I'll link them here later..

Here is an example of C=Commercial (read diesel) oil rated CI-4 + (now there is a more recent u pgrade to a newer standard = CJ-4+)

Here are a couple examples of two different symbols that are used on "Energy Conserving" oils

Yup, if it says "energy conserving" then leave it on the shelf.

It is not specifically made for motorcycles and does not have the Jasco rating.. It is a commercially rated diesel oil that has most of the same additives as the Jasco rated oils.. in fact some oil makers have had their diesel oil tested against Jasco standards and passed.. other choose not to test as the market is small (compared to diesel trucks) and they often have a specific (more expensive) version that they would like to sell to motorcycists..

Thanks peoples. I just remember something about the bottom part of the API needed to be blank. Seeing this "CI-4 Plus" made me second guess myself on if this was code for "energy conserving" and I didnt know it. Oreilly's Automotive carries the WIX filter in stock, for a handful of dollars less than the dealer. Changing oil tomorrow. Thanks again peoples...
