Rider needs to rethink the terms,"2-up".....and........"momentum"!!:cool::cool::cool::cool:

They are lucky to talk about it. Guard rails saved there butts this time. Stupid, just stupid.:waving:

It's one thing to go out and try to take yourself out, but your passenger is YOUR responsibility, what a goober, I hope she smacked him good..............

what happened there , did he lock rear tire up braking , don't no how to ride for sure , more training

My Humble Opinion:

I think it was plain ole target fixation. Newb disease. Note how he didn't even begin to lean into the turn. He stayed straight-up right to the impact with the rail.

He was distracted by the bicyclists, then saw the guard rail for the turn. Never did look into the turn, and kept his gaze on the coming rail.

The bike took him exactly where he was looking, or, where he "targeted".

I made that mistake once, fixed on the the outside of a turn.

Just scared me a bunch though, moved my eyes back to where they should be. Too close though, way too close.

My first thought in the 1st ten seconds was "What is that idiot thinking?" You don't ride two-up and pull stunts like that.

See them all the time...two up on a zoom splat going way too fast and cutting in and out of cars etc.....Kinda makes you wonder if that girl hanging on the back, if her parents have any idea of what kind of idiot they are letting their daughter ride with...Or if it is his wife, then he has no respect for not only his life but hers....Makes me wonder ?????

Only good thing that happened was he ended up being an airbag for her.

This kinda stuff is NOT limited to sportbikes.

Before some of you get a little "self righteous" about the zoomsplat folks, please understand that this CAN and DOES happen on Goldwings, Harleys and even scooters.

Sorry to preach but I see this "I'm not on a Sportbike, so it won't happen to me" mentality. Not just with this thread but with others.

I agree 100.00% that his excessive speed was a key component in the problem, and that it was self-made. But it's not the sole, nor the major factor in my opinion.

Now I'll step off the soapbox and return to my normal cherub-like demeanor. Oh, and if someone wants to flame me, go ahead. I could use a good flaming!! ;)

"I made that mistake once, fixed on the the outside of a turn."

Just what I was thinking
A few weeks ago saw the same thing happened on one of our weekend rides. Seems the poor guy locked on the sign on the outside edge of the turn and ended up with him, passenger and bike in the ditch! We stopped to help him out even if he wasn't riding with us (a bunch of sport bikes) we knew he couldn't get his Venture out of the ditch alone.

It is hard to say if he just braked too late and couldn't make the curve, or stared at the rail instead of ahead at his exit.
Either way, that is no way to keep a good woman.

Judging from the way he braked, I thinkhe came into the corner too hot and didn't have the nerve or sense to lay it over enough to make it. He locked up the back brake twice before the collision with the guardrail. I agree target fixation definitely played a part. When he realized he was going too fast for the corner he fixed on that object he didn't want to hit. I also don't think he used his front brake eitherjudging fromhis little fish tails. Glad he didn't kill anyone.

Can't comment on the dude's intelligence level - I've done enough bone-headed stunts to know better. I'm just glad I lived long enough to learn from my mistakes.

I don’t think the issue is necessarily sport bikes, but the mentality of the some of the kids riding them. This guy obviously is not a good rider and had no business riding two up. If you watch him in the corners before the crash you’ll see that he is jerking the bike. I bet she was nervous long before he hit the wall.

The fact is that inexperienced young riders buy sport bikes for the thrill and status. They think they’re invincible and ride without really knowing how to ride. I think very few people investing in Goldwings or Harleys have that mentality.

How often have you seen someone on a Goldwing weave in and out of the lanes on the interstate?

And inexperienced people buy Harleys for status as well. They ride em to the bar and back, and sometimes try a mountain road, get in over their head, and *boom*.

Does California lane sharing count as "weaving in and out" of the lanes on the Interstate? If that counts in your book, then - I see it every day - and do it every day I'm on a wing.

2 up on crotch rockets just don't work when you want to get down on them. IMO.. The whole suspension and handling thing goes out the window when riding these things nowadays. I don't even know why they put passenger pegs on them. Gotta be awful uncomfortable for the female on the back.
imported post

wow some of you are really mean to sport bike riders like oh my dog they are all the same

well then since I ride with a few different groups I guess I'm the only goldwing rider that doesn't wear an adult diaper, smoke like a stack, is fat as a cow and needs a seat that's twice as wide as his bike (or two back wheels in extreme cases) .... bla bla bla

Oh and let me tell you about the Ducati group and the the Triumph group... ones full of Romeos and the other well they all have bad teeth

Easy folks.........
