Rider needs to rethink the terms,"2-up".....and........"momentum"!!
I don’t think the issue is necessarily sport bikes, but the mentality of the some of the kids riding them. This guy obviously is not a good rider and had no business riding two up. If you watch him in the corners before the crash you’ll see that he is jerking the bike. I bet she was nervous long before he hit the wall. This kinda stuff is NOT limited to sportbikes.
Before some of you get a little "self righteous" about the zoomsplat folks, please understand that this CAN and DOES happen on Goldwings, Harleys and even scooters.
Sorry to preach but I see this "I'm not on a Sportbike, so it won't happen to me" mentality. Not just with this thread but with others.
I agree 100.00% that his excessive speed was a key component in the problem, and that it was self-made. But it's not the sole, nor the major factor in my opinion.
Now I'll step off the soapbox and return to my normal cherub-like demeanor. Oh, and if someone wants to flame me, go ahead. I could use a good flaming!!![]()
And inexperienced people buy Harleys for status as well. They ride em to the bar and back, and sometimes try a mountain road, get in over their head, and *boom*.rgbeard wrote:The fact is that inexperienced young riders buy sport bikes for the thrill and status. They think they’re invincible and ride without really knowing how to ride. I think very few people investing in Goldwings or Harleys have that mentality.
How often have you seen someone on a Goldwing weave in and out of the lanes on the interstate?
