I've found discussions about the 70's carbs being different each model year, is there a similar difference in the 80's GL1100 carbs? I boogered up one and would prefer to not have to shell out cash for a whole bank.

I think some have press in jets and some have screw in jets,not sure of other changes. What year is your bike?

80-81 have pressed in idle jets, 82-83 have screwed in jets. There may be some other difference somewhere because of the different base setting on the mixture screws.

Mine is an 83, there's a bank of 81 carbs on fleabay that I'm considering for a full replacement if I can't find a single...

the 80&81 GL 1100s used VB48A and the 82&83 used VB48C carburetors and I don't think I'd mix them. Although you probably could.
