I had my 82 GL1100 out today for a few hours, and while my wife on the back was quite comfy in the 90 degree weather, I was sweltering from the heat pouring out of the engine - especially going up hills. I was literally dripping and trying to hold body parts (one at a time) out in the airstream.

It would seem the Goldwing fairing is a little TOO efficient in hot weather. I'm sure there must be aftermarket wings and such that clamp on somewhere to direct air in behind the fairing for hot-weather riding. Can anyone point me to such a thing before I go out with some aluminum and design something myself?

I have Baker wings on my 1500, they make them for all Goldwings. Work great, look like hell. I was planning on taking them off, but after riding 5000 miles with them in cold and hot weather, will keep them. They help a lot! I'd go for clear ones though, I have read ones that match my bike but that makes them more conspicuous.

I have an 83 GL1100 Aspencade thatI put a windshield vent for a 1500 on. It helps! I'll probably get some side wings before the summer is over.

I like them too, but when it's raining or when a bug hits the windshield with a big splat, I like fairings. Naked bikes are by far easier to work on!

I put a pair of wings that I got from JCWhitney recently on my '83I. They either bring air in or deflect it out. Simple to install. I also just put 4(overkill?) aircraft vents http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/snapvents.php in my windshield. Also simple to install. Lots of air if I want it and can shut everything off if I don't. So far so good.

I've seen Wind Wings in the J C Whitney catalog for gl1100's for around $40+-. Diluting the hot air from the motor with cooler air may be the only solution (short of going naked :shock.

We've been looking for Susan's because her's runs in the high normal range, & the box on the rear really pushes the slip stream out........... She likes the fairing, but needs more air flow.

This Baker Built is the first outfit I've seen to offer some specifically for A Vetter fairing.:cheeky1:

Has anyone tried those windshield vents that open and close. Seems like an interesting prospect.

I really like the windshield vent, intending to put one in the next windshield. My current one has a lot of rock pocks and will go when the budget allows. I think the vent would really be a nice addition. With a vent and my Baker Wings I'll probably get blown right off the bike!:goofygrin:

Firstif you don't have one put a "Windshield Vent "in your windshield!

Plus there are "Cool Vest" some work better than others, there's "Fabric Polymer Embeded' vest and "Crystal Vests" whch have cooling Crystals in them, but you have to have a "Vent" to put wind on the Vest so it will work !

I rode today in 89-91deg F. temps, 60+mph, with all mybike's vents open, fairing wings deployed tothe intake position,and I was very comfortable.

My windshield looks a little funny but as far as I can tell, the 4 aircraft vents are going to do just fine.

Ventilate and feel just great:cheeky1:
