I put a pair of wings that I got from JCWhitney recently on my '83I. They either bring air in or deflect it out. Simple to install. I also just put 4(overkill?) aircraft vents http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/snapvents.php in my windshield. Also simple to install. Lots of air if I want it and can shut everything off if I don't. So far so good.

I rode today in 89-91deg F. temps, 60+mph, with all mybike's vents open, fairing wings deployed tothe intake position, and I was very comfortable.

My windshield looks a little funny but as far as I can tell, the 4 aircraft vents are going to do just fine.

Ventilate and feel just great:cheeky1:

Frenchy,

I'm curious about a statement you made. You said Susan's bike runs on the high side of normal. Could you possibly need a new thermostat in the bike or maybe a lower temp. one?

This may not have any bearing at all with what you are concerned with but I had to ask.:action:

The wings I got from JCW and what GWMaclean show in his attachment are one in the same. I think they help but not so much in slow traffic.

In Illinois, helmets are optional. We decide.

Frenchy, Use some small fans on each side of the lowers to duct the heat out. A couple of computer 12v. fans should help. As a matter of fact, I'm going to experiment with that myself.

I think we might be on to something.

You know, the first reaction I had to the post about taxpayers and helmet laws was "BS" but in all fairness I decided to go and look up some info for my own education.

I must admit that statistically helmets do work to save lives and help or reduce debilitating head trauma. I thought at first this statisticmight be an aberation due to the rapid increase in motorcycle ownership in this country over the last decade. But, that doesn't hold water. Research after research clearly indicated that when the mandantory federal law on helmet usage was dropped back in the '70's and states dropped the mandantory use, injuries and fatalities due to head trauma immediately anddramatically rose.

Also as stated, the cost of caring for the invalids far exceeds most insurance coverage that is commonly carried by most individuals, leaving the public domain(taxpayers) to pick up the tab. Hmmm.

So, I freely admit that you've made a valid point and actually made me re-think my own helmet usage. I believe I shall bewearing mine as well as my child-bride wearing her's too.:waving:

Csanders, have you tried taking the engine covers off and ride it? Maybe they're not letting the engine get enough air past it and it's "pooling" in that area.

Maybe not:)

I am running Evans NPG+ waterless coolant and so far everything is great. I'm using a stock T-stat and a 4lb Radiator cap. I have a closed system and the bike runs well in the heat. I do want to say that the bike still runs at the stock t-stat temp and yes the fan kicks on in traffic. But, it cools down quickly and doesn't even try to over heat. We just ran 160 miles this afternoon in 85+F. temps and the bike just motored along with one needle width above center on the temp guage in town.

I like the lifetime coolant and boil-over at 375 F. with no pressure. No silicates, non-toxic, and the benefit of reduced cooling system failures due to low-no pressure system.

Csanders,

If you're going to order some air wings, check out JC Whitney's then look at the Baker Air wings. If I'm not mistaken, they are the same. Granted, you can buy extensions from Baker, but otherwise they appear to be identical. I put some on from JCW and they definately help bring in air from the sides. Also, they help in cooler weather by being able to deflect air away from the fairing, drawing up some engine heat.

Yes, I'm using the JCW wing deflectors and really like them. They're easy to install and operate.

The overly inflated shipping costs are the main reason that I don't shop with JCW unless I have to. I only live about 100 miles from their shop and I'm amazed at how much they charge for regular brown ground UPS.

That being said, the products that I have bought from them have proven to be good in quality.
