I've seen Wind Wings in the J C Whitney catalog for gl1100's for around $40+-. Diluting the hot air from the motor with cooler air may be the only solution (short of going naked ).

We've been looking for Susan's because her's runs in the high normal range, & the box on the rear really pushes the slip stream out........... She likes the fairing, but needs more air flow.

This Baker Built is the first outfit I've seen to offer some specifically for A Vetter fairing.:cheeky1:

Thanks Exavid!!!

The problem that we're experiencing with Susan's bike, & possibly what GSMacLeanis talking about, won't be fixed by a windshield vent, The problem on Susan's is that the heat from the radiator doesn't dissipate very well..... It buildsaround the base of the pod right behind the fairing, & lingers back toward the driver.:XI have the same fairing set up on mine, & the heat's there, but dissipates quickly. It really kills her in town driving!! I pulled the fairing off yesterday, & the heat dissipates fine... We've discussed it, & Susan just might be riding naked this summer.:shock:The bike, not her.

Hobie,

I've done quite a bit of fooling around with the trike this past weekend.....I feel one of the main reasons for the high normal (beside the 90 plus heat this weekend) was the carbs........ I re-synced them this weekend, & it seem to have madea difference:)(the carbs were out of sync a bit:?). Iput several miles on it. In town, & on the open road. The temp was around 80 ( I think a little under), & I could feel the heat going down the road, & it was terrible in town:crying:....The bike was running in the low normal range.

I had thought about trying to convert some Vetter lowers to work like the Honda Line ones on a gl1100I. Venting the heat out of the side of the lower, getting it further away from the driver. But after reading Bob's post, I'm not so sure now. We're getting a handle bar mount windscreen tonight, for a ABATE sponsored ride to Lansing tomorrow (protesting the helmet law), & we'll see how she likes that.:?

First to stay on topic:):

We made the ride yesterday. Susan was a bit more comfortable, because I took the windjammer off, & mounted a fork mount windshield .We did roughly 60 miles on the expressway, at 70-75 mph,at around70-75 degrees. Susan's trike performed great. Staying in the low to mid, normal range. We did some around town driving after the rally, & her bike got pretty hot (the temp got up over 90
). We took the e-way about halfway back. Her ride started running a bitover the normal range :realshocked:. We stopped to let the bikes cool off, & get a little somethingfor us
.

I've got an air scoop that I'm going to put on the front, to try & get more air flow across the radiator
. I also plan on changing the thermostat as well.

I really like the idea about the fans.... I'll have to see what I can do, because the Vetter lowers don't provide for venting of the heat from the radiator.:crying:

Something else that I'm sure is a factor: With the car rear end, the trike turns about a grand higher than my wing. But I don't think it's enough to make it run that hot....

To get off topic for a moment:

Boy I stirred a wasp nest didn't I.:jumper:

Yes, the numbers do lie! Because if you look carefully, you'll see that there are not just one, not just two, but multiple sets of numbers. And some of these multiples are coming from the same places.
At yesterday's rally, there was a District Attorney from Detroit. HE stated that in the "defective equipment cases" (like the incident that STD's????:realshocked:

As far your tax dollars being spent on something you don't want: Welcome to democracy.:byebye:I could buy a brand new Wing with the money that the federal government keeps from me each year (that would be cool to get a new bike each year), and a lot of it's going to things that I don't approve of.

So in closing:

I've had a motorcycle endorsement for thirty years. Riding without a helmet is not something new to me, & I wish to exercise my Freedom & Personal Liberty by riding my motorcycle without a helmet.

It's like one State Representative said yesterday, "No one kept me from joining the military because it could be hazardous to my health!"

I know it' a heated subject, & I will post no more about it here. If someone wants to start a new thread, I might add to it........... :baffled:

An update on Susan's trike:

I went to Phil's yesterday on my ("potato, potato") Harley to get a new thermostat (see I've got a sense of humor:grinner:). When I pulled the thermostat out, I found what I believe to be a car stat:shock:.

The one on the left is from mother Honda, & the one on the right is the one I puled out of Susan's. As you can see, it's a much beefier stat!!! I could hardly open the thing with my thumbs. Where as I could open the Honda stat with little difficulty. I believe that Norm (the gentleman who built it) used a car thermostat. It may have fit, but it was designed for a considerably higher volume of water flinging through it. That's my theory anyway. I tried it out a little yesterday, but the weather didn't want to cooperate. It was 90+ while I was working on it, then some clouds rolled in when I was ready to try her out. When I took her out on the road, she never got above the mid-normal range. But the temp had dropped to the mid-seventies. I'll take it out this afternoon when I get home, & see how it does. It's 9:30am here, & it's already 80:crying:, so take her out & see how she acts in the heat..... Let keep our fingers crossed, shall we.
