I was riding about a 2 months ago and when I hit my brake pedal the dash went out completely for a split second. It did it again when I hit the front brake lever a little while later. Weather got bad and parked bike for about a month (in garage). and when I went to start it the battery was dead. Bought new battery and got the bike out for a few rides and intermittently the bike would go dead for a split second (usually when hitting front brake lever, but a few times when hitting bounces). I went yesterday to get the bike out of the garage and the new battery was dead. I assume I have some kind of short in the wiring or something but I am not very experienced with working on dc voltage. Please if someone can give me a direction on which way to go I would really appreciate it as budget will not allow a trip to the repair shop right now. The only things I did to the bike this year were to put a new headlight in (I do not think I pinched any fairing wires, and I pulled the radio out to look and see how much room was behind it for an aftermarket one, but I put the radio back in). Thank you!

After reading a lot of the forum questions I went to my bike and looked at what I believe is the fuse located on the right side of the battery compartment and this is a picture of what I found. It is burnt and the 4 wires that attach to the clip on top are corroded and the clip is melted. What is the best thing for me to do? Can I get a clip and this entire assembly or is their another option that I should consider? Thank you so much for looking.

Thank You very much Tricky, I really appreciate it. I am not sure I can do this, but I might try it. I am also looking at the clymer book that came with the bike and from the information you were kind enough to provide me with I want to make sure that the solenoid is the bottom part of what is in my picture and the burnt part is the fusible link. When I tried to start the bike yesterday, it sounded like the starter engaged with the tiny bit of battery that was left. So I think the solenoid is good.
