i have a 1984 aspy. the paint on the right side of the engine has started to come off. according to the haynes book, there is suppose to be a crankcase breather canister where the paint has come off. my bike doesnt have this on the right side. the only crankcase breather i see is on the left side behind the foot peg and it is black.my question's are, what kind of paint do you recommend to touch up this black spot which is the size of a cigar? am i missing this crankcase breather canister on the right side and if so ,do i need to get one?:waving:

thanks for any ideas.

I've used the silver, "Aluminum" colored high-temperature paint with good success. Most good auto parts stores sell it.

I have used it as well from an aresol can... coats? I guess till it looked better. Make sure you get any oil or grease off first. Several light coats are always better than one thick (and sagging/runny) coat

You may be and you don't if there's a breather tube connected to the crankcase and leading below the bike. The canister is just to keep greenies happy.

Dupli-Color do a very good OEM looking engine paint, number DE 1615 Aluminum. Don't buy the high temp (1610 I think) as its a flat type paint. The 1615 builds up thick and shiny like the OEM paint.

I second that. Have a can of it in my hand and it is a perfect match Good for 260 degrees C

What store did you get the Dupli color spray?

Tricky: Sorry, but somehow I overlooked your question. I was in contact with the guy who loaned me his paint can for my little touch-up. He got it at a local auto parts store(Fergusons) in Halifax. Not sure how nationwide they are. CTC have the dupli colour but I did not see the engine aluminum. Just look around a bit.

Another excellent quality engine paint Iused on mine isPOR 30. It comesin apint can for about $25. It actually cures by the heat of the engine and forms a very tough chemical resistant coating. It may be a bit of an over kill for tough up.I prefer to brush engine paint. The spray can gets all over everything unless you spend 2 hours masking everything up.
