weldvair,
Have you tried using seafoam added into your gas tank? That is great stuff for clining sticking/dirty carbs. Many people use it on a regular basis.

Hi,
To drain the tank you should be able to let all the fuel run out the hose that comes from the tank. Then switch it to reserve and that should let the last 1 gallon drain out. if it does not run out freely then the tank screen is clogged. When you look in the tank do you see rust? The advice to remove the tank is good but on these machines it is like giving birth. There is much dissasembly required including removal of the rear wheel. Do not attempt to remove the tank unless absolutely neccesary. If fuel does not run out freely try blowing into tank to free up screen. The seafoam is a very good idea.
Good Luck,
Greg

To drain the tank - is it simple enough to remove the fuel line from the petcock?

I don't have any GL-1100 experience. Just speculating.

I thought you had mentioned that the bike bogs when accelerating and then picks back up to normal speed. If this is the case and you have no trouble maintaining a decent speed, then I believe your problem will be in the accelerator pump circuit of the carb. Either it is dirty, clogged or not adjusted right. Seafoam may help this if it is dirty or partially clogged. Having the carbs serviced, they may have not cleaned out the section of the carberator or misadjusted it when they put back together.

The accelerator pump parts on most carbs have a diaphram to performs the pumping. If it not set in correctly or is ripped AT ALL, it won't work properly which will also create the problem you are discribing.

How far away from Deland florida are you. I know a guy who is pretty good with carberators that lives in Deland. If you are not that far from him, I can call him to see if he can help you out. He use to work in a motorcycle repair shop. He is retired now. I don't think he will charge you much to work on it.

Got the tank cleaned, new fuel lines & filter. I put 2 oz of seafoam in the gas. I fixed the sending unit. I'll take it for a ride in the morning before it heats up to see if the problem is gone. Thanks for all the help.....Don

Jason-that is not what I'm talking about. The engine apparantiy is staving for gas. It looses power.

Will find out in the morning if it is fixed.

rgbeard.....I just followed the directions. They call for approx 1/2 oz per gallon of gas. I put 3 gal of gas to oz of seafoam.

I drove it this morning & it ran rough for 3 miles then cleared up. I continued to drive it for 70 more miles & it ran great the whole time, however the gas gauge is not working again.

It's 100 degrees so I'll wait till it cools off a bit to check the gas gauge....any recommendations?
