I have a ticking noise coming from my speedometer. It gets faster as I speed up and looking closely I can see a slight shake in the speedo needle. I'm wondering if its the cable or speedo itself?
Unscrew the cable from the back of the speedo and go for another ride. That way you can rule one or the other out. More than likely the internalcable has a kink in it, or something wrong with it.
I'm hoping it might just be the cable. I pulled the inner cable out and there is a slight but noticeable kink about 4" up from the wheel end. I'll fit a new cable this weekend before I go any further.
If you disconnect the cable from the hub, you still haven't isolated the cable and speedometer. If you disconnect it at the speedo, you'll know if it's one or the other. Sounds like you found it. The inner cable can't have any bends in it, it won't spin freely, and will "click" like you say.
Knew it was the cable. Seen too many of them on cars and such like that. My tach cable is a bit worn, and I do need to change it someday.
