I am wanting to get rid of the factory radio and go with an aftermarket setup. Before I even attempt this the first question that comes to mind is that little bucket the radio slides into and locks in the dash. I have replaced several car radios and never seen this type of setup before.
How do I get this out to access the wires? As usual I am at your mercy oh wise ones.
Gonna' have to remove the headlight,instruments,dash-board and probably the speakers to get access to everything. Might want to down-load a manual from the Ref/FAQ section or buy one to get some pictures of the proceedure and the proper steps in order... :gunhead:
I'm not 100% sure on this because it's an Sei. but...
Before you start, you may need to find a guage-cluster bracket from an Interstate model. I doubt you'll be able to fit a new radio in that small space.
Then the mirrors, headlight, windshield and speakers have to come off so you can pull the cluster cover off, so you can remove the instrument cluster. Then you can change the brackets.
The new radio will be wired into the existing radio harness under the left fairing pocket.
Now the hard part starts. You have to figure out a way to solidly mount the new radio into the dash. If you don't care how it looks, I've seen aftermarket mounting faces that are too long.
Or...you can send your stock unit to Sierra and have them put it back into working order. That would be my choice.
