I have three (3) gauges on the right side of my fairing. One is for Voltage, one is for Outside Air Temperature and the other says "MULTI" on it with 3 buttons ( "OPR" "ADJ" "MODE" ) directly above it. This gauge lights up but does not show any reading. I cannot seem to find anything on these gauges and hope that someone can help me out with this. What is this gauge for and what is it supposed to show? Picture attached. Any help will be appreciated.

The bottom two (Air Temp & Voltage) are "attached" to each other and the top one that is in question is a "stand alone" unit. All units are marked HONDA so this is some sort of add-on that Honda offered.

Here is a better picture of the gauges. I have messed with the gauge a little but cannot get it to read anything. The Temp and Volt gauges work fine. The Multi gauge lights up but does not show any reading. If anyone knows what this gauge is supposed to do, please let me know. I cannot seem to find anything on it that tells me what it is for.

I pulled the top gauge and it has two thick wire bundles comming out of it.

One bundle has a solid green wire and a yellow w/black stripe wire. These were plugged into 2 large connectors under the panel. One connector had a green wire and the other was black. I checked and the black is a ground and the green is a switched 12v. lead.

The other bundle has 4 small wires in it. One is red and has a red connector on it. The other 3 wires are solid yellow, solid white and solid blue. They all 3 go into a 3-pin connector. These connectors attach to matching connectors on the button block whaer the 3 buttons are located.

I checked the buttons by attaching my multimeter to the red wire and then the other lead to each pin in the 3-pin connector and when a button is pushed, the corresponding pin has continuitity.

I am now going to investigate the inside of the LCD housing and see what is in there. I'll post my findings. This gauge hooks to nothing. It must be some sort of "stand alone" unit. I just wish I knew what it was supposed to show.

Well, I am back from both Honda Dealers that are in town and they have no clue what this gauge is for or where it come from. One Dealer said that they had some old HondaLine catalogs from years past and they would try and look it up. I also called Honda and talked to a couple of reps there and they knew nothing about it. Seems awful funny that this is a Honda gauge but no one at Honda knows anything about it.

I am trying that as I type this. I am going to go to a couple of electronic repair shops tomorrow and see if anyone would be interested in working on it. Don't know if they will but I am willing to give it a try. I would love to eventually get everything working on the bike. My next project is to attack the Markland Cruise Control and see if I can repair it to functioning status.

Here is a picture of the control for the cruise. (don't mind the bird s**t. I walked out to take the picture and it was there) I have not even started to troubleshoot this thing. I do know that something is missing though. On the forward side (under the MARKLAND badge) there is two circle openings. One has a small gray (looks like a pot. for adjusting something) button in it. the other hole is open like something used to be there but is now gone. I have been looking for info on this unit but cannot seem to find anything.

I have found on eBay a 1985 HondaLine Accessory catalog. In this catalog, it shows the MULTI gauge in it and tells me what is did. The book says:

" The multifunction Chronometer supplies you with time, date, hourmeter and stopwatch functions - all at the push of a button."

Thanks to all for your many inputs.:clapper: I am going to take the gauge to a local electronics repair shop and see what happens. I'll post back and let you know if I am successful in getting the gauge to function again.

Using the 1985 Accessory Manual that I got ahold of and paying a visit to an old man that works on electronic devices in his garage, I am happy to announce that my gauge is now working.:cooler:

Thanks to everyone for your input.

Now I can focus on the last item on my bike that is not working and that is the cruise control. :clapper:

Well, when you take off the cover you find a circuit board. The LCD lit up but did not display anything. We removed the circuit board to do some testing and there was a 3v. Lithium battery soldered to the under side of the circuit board. We checked the battery and it was dead. We de-soldered and removed the battery and hooked up a ground and applied 3v. to the positive lead and the LCD started working. I went over to Radio Shack and purchased a new battery. We soldered in the newbattery and it is working. I guess the only thing the 12v. from the bike does is operates the backlighting on the LCD. All functions of the LCD work off the 3v. battery.

I hope my cruise control problem is this easy to fix.:gunhead:

Seems my cruise control fixed its self!!!!

Last Friday, my bike sat out in a rain storm while I was working, On Saturday, I was riding to work and for some reason I had the control in the on position (usually it is in the off position)and when I reached for my drink, I must of hit the "set" button with my arm. Anyway, the throttle twisted in my had on its own. It scared the s**t out of me. I immediately reached over and shut it off and the throttle went to 0. I was almost at work so I didn't mess with it anymore. When I came out of work, I turned the control on and when I got out on the road, I hit "set" and it held. I pushed "set" again and it increased speed until I quit pushing it and held the new speed. I hit the brakes to slow down and it released. I hit "resume" and it went back up to the last set speed.

A friend of mine and I went on a ride late Saturday afternoon and I ran the control all day with no problems what so ever. for some strange reason, after sitting in the rain all day, the cruise started working.
