Is this the piece you mean? (picture below). If it is, the inner mirror trim has a metal sprung connector on it's bottom edge which needs to be seated properly or it will stick out. Just peel back the rubber to check it.I have a GL 1500 1996. The molding that is on each side of fairing right below each mirror ( where it overlaps ) kind of overlaps and sits on top of other trim ( molding ) It's the trim that is on the perimeter of fairing. One side aligns perfectly and other side doesn't lay down and sticks out. I have seen this on quite of few GL 1500's. I know this is totally cosmetic but would like to have both sides looking the same. I though about using a little dab of JB weld to get it to hold down in place. Will post a picture if I can figure out how to. Any other ideas? Maybe it's not snapped in properly?
You could also check the curved trim under it is in the right position and not pushed too far up. This piece is just a push fit but you can slide it up and down a little when you've slightly loosened it.
