alas like a normal night ride having fun just cruising in the country about dusk, then it happend, started missing, hesitating, lights dimmed..... and it died wouldnt crank or anything tons of us have been in this position, i did the walk of shame pushing bessie to a farm house near by the farmer charged my battery for 2 hours and i pulled every fuse but ignition got it started and rode home following my dad in pitch black conditions.... sucky sucky.... ugh

pulling the motor wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be

i did some needed maintance while the motor was out, checked the timing belts, polished all the aluminum, and sanded down the frame where it was rusty and painted it, i am very suprised that the cooling sensor trick works posted on here i am throughly impressed at it, went to the salvage yard and picked up 3 sensors and harness ends for 2 dollars each

wired them in and the fan kickes on at about 180 degrees or so

but for the most part it wasnt difficult on a scale of 1 to 10

i would probably give it a 5 or so i am a mechanic for a living though so im sure that makes a diffrence

i dont know where they get 1000 dollars for the job thats the price i was quoted by almost everyone i called

so old reliable is good for at least a few more years i hope

i just want to thank all the technical support i recieved on this site during my task

everyone i talked to was extremely helpfull and eager to share information

thanks to everyone
