1978 Honda GL1000 Goldwing

Make me a realistic offer.

My GL1000 is 95% restored and looks great. It’s completely stock and a super clean example of the best year GL ever made (in my humble opinion).

I have put countless hours into refurbishing the bike, but finances force me to let her go. Now you can finish the engine work and have a true modern-day classic.

All the chrome is shiny, with very little pitting or rust. The frame has been freshly painted the correct black. The rest of the paint (tank, side covers) is in fair condition with a number of scrapes and scratches. Could use fresh paint and new decals.

Seat is in really good condition -- a couple of small seams have been repaired, and are barely noticeable.

The bike will need some engine work to get it running correctly but basically it’s all there and ready for someone to finish the restoration. It has a newer speedo and tach. Odometer reads 35K miles, but bike undoubtedly has more.

Exhaust in okay shape with a lot of fine scratches, and a couple of rusted-out spots (underneath and hard to see. Look closely at the photos).
The brake discs are perfect (freshly machined) but new brake pads are in order.

I have clear California title in hand, in my name. Frame # GL4056462, Engine # GL1E4056501

Tons of new parts:

• New electronic ignition (also comes with original points and
condenser)
• New Tires front and rear
• New Carb seals and gaskets
• New Fuel pump
• New Fuel filter
• New OEM hand grips
• New OEM foot pegs
• New Mirrors
• New Timing Belts
• New OEM fuel lines
• New Air filter
• New Spark plugs and plug caps
• Newly-machined F & R brake discs
• New master cylinder seals and reservoir
• New hydraulic brake lines F&R
• New Fork seals
• New clutch cable
• New Throttle cables (not installed but I will include)
• Fresh oil, filter, coolant and brake fluid

Restored / refinished:

• Frame freshly painted black
• Engine freshly painted with exact silver color as new
• Engine covers and timing covers stripped and polished
• Fork legs stripped and polished

What it needs:

• The engine starts right up but makes a loud knocking sound at idle. It goes away at higher engine speeds. I have been told it needs a new starter clutch and/or starter chain. It could also need a primary chain

• Needs minor carb cleaning (carbs were rebuilt and synchronized, but have been sitting for a few months)

Make me a realistic offer. I'm located in Southern California.

It's interesting to compare your bike to the Hondabagos that they have become.

Also, anyone who has properly restored a car or bike will appreciate the effort and money that goes into doing it right. If you had put the same effort into restoring someone else's machine the bill would be frightening.

I hope you get a decent reward for your efforts.
