I use PJ1, 15 wt. I get it from the bike shop down the road, but a lot of guys use ATF fluid.

really any good oil, the heavier the stiffer the ride but Jeff is right most use ATF or fork oil from a stealer.

There usually is no way to determine what weight ATF is and it varies???. Bike fork oil ismarked on the container. I use 15#. But it is a personal preference. Also my fork seals stopped leaking when I switched over from ATF.

It is pretty straightforward really:

  • Motor oil for motors
  • ATF for Automatic Transmissions
  • Fork Oil for forks

You could use any kind of hydraulic oil and be OK. Thats why some people use ATF and it works OKsince ATF is just a specialized hydraulic oil.

Any motorcycle shop will carry fork oil. Usually you'll at least see 10w and 15w on the shelf.

As a general rule the heavier YOU are the heavier the fork oil should be.
