Hi guys I have to put in fork seals in my GL1200 has anyone done this? I am planning on removing the forks and having my local Honda shop put them in they are going to charge me $50.00 to install seals in both forks. Just need to know how hard it is to remove the forks, whit out tearing the hole front end apart. thanks MCFF:?:?:?:?

Hi MCFF,

It's pretty easy to get the forks out, if you have the tools.

Once the bike is jacked up and stable, drop the wheel and tie the calipers to the engine guards. Remove the fork brace and fender.

Now you'll need a short allen socket (I made mine) to loosen the 4lower triple clamp pinch bolts. Then loosen the upper pinch bolts and slide the forks out.

Note; there is a little clamp ring that has to come off the top. You'll know when you get that far what I mean, but it needs to be removed and replaced carefully.

Keep us posted.

BTW, 50 bucks is cheap.

From one firefighter to another, it wasn:t bad at all. The price of 50.00 sounds resonable to. I paid 75.00 the first time including the seals and fluids. Second time in another bike I also changed to progressive springs, which I provided along with seals and dust caps. I paid almost 150.00 that time. But as far as removing them it was a piece of cake. Shined up the lowerfork tubes and cleaned everything up nice. Also when pulling the tubes down, there is a thin c-clip recessed in the top half. You need to pull that off to get the tube passed the bottom. When replacing tues, slide it thru the bottom tree, then replace thin c-clip and continue pushing tube up. It will stop when the c-clip reaches the top tree.

A torque wrench is your friend when reassembling the wheel and forks.
