Frog Choker in Florida

I got caught in a Florida storm today and it was raining so hard I couldn't see where I was going so I pulled off untill it let up some. While sitting there with the bike idling it started to stumble. I gave it some gas and it smoothed out but when I let it idle it started to stumble and I let it stall. It was a little hard to start but started alright. After that I kept the idle at about 1000 - 1200 rpm with no problem. Once the rain let up some it idled fine and I drove home without problems.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something to watch out for in the rain?

Like others have indicated, sounds like spark plug wires to me. My friends 1989 Gold Wing Trike would start running crappy and loose power every time he got in a bad rain storm. We replaced the spark plug wires and that solved the problem.

If the spark plug wires are in good condition, you can ride through some relatively hard rain without any problems. Been there done that.....!

The plug wires are not difficult to change, just takes a little time.

Take a spray bottle, fill it with water, go outside on a dark night, start the bike up, and spray in and around the plugs and wires. You'll quickly see (look for the sparks) where the problem is.

I virtually have to push start mine after I wash it, and I try to be careful not to hose down much around the engine.
