1997 GL1500 SE we took the allen head bolt out to drain the fluid during a progressive upgrade and now can not get the bolt back in. The dampner piston seems to not drop all the way down so the bolt can screw into it. Have taken the anti dive piston out and still can not get it to go down further. Any help would be greatfull? Maybe some pics?

Get a long thin metal or wooden rod and tap the damper down the rest of the way.

There was no need to remove those bolts. Drain plug screws are at the back of the slider. Install the springs and caps as this should push the piston down.

In case anyone else has this problem it was the Dampner piston was not going down all the way due to the lower forks had to be pushed up to engage the allen screw. Thanks for the help!
