Front shocks bumping GL1200

My 84 aspy has just recently started this problem. It does not happen often but every once in a while, the front end sounds like the shocks bottom out but I can find no leaks and they respond fine on a stand and the air works fine in the shock. When I tested them with full weight they also seem fine.

Try changing the fork fluid, that can make a world of difference.
I'd also check the steering head bearing for looseness and check every other bolt on the front end and the fairing brackets are tight.

I had the same thing and it turned out to be a loose steering head, and it doesn't take much

i've got the same thing going on, i have put new seals on, and changed the fluid. however i had the same problem in rear, replaced springs with new progressive springs and it is wonderful in rear.. so now of course you know what that means! i've got the front progressive springs on order from bike bandit. i expect that my 27 year old springs are limp... i'm expecting it to solve my problem as there is no reason to bottom out if there is sufficient spring.

the springs are probably too tired, also the oil might be too old. whats your antidive setting?

Had the same thing on my '86 aspy after a seal replacement. Too much oil although the correct ammount was measured in. Let a drop out. Problem solved.

I will give all this a try and get back to the forum with the results.

All I have to say is WOW! I just finished changing the front springs, took it for a short ride, and it is an incredible difference. with no air, it sits a good 2 inches higher, and rides much firmer, had no bottoming out entering my driveway, which is a normal bottom out spot ( with air!).. but be careful with springs... I about had a heart attack setting it on the side stand, it went much farther over. I thought it was going over!

just do it! change the springs, fluid and seals!
