Is the fuel filter on the 85 LTD the same as on other 1200's. I saw in the posts where it was described as quite spendy. I called my local shop and they said they had one for 5 dollars. Should I be looking for something special.

Got it thanks, a little hard to trouble shoot because, if I come to a stop and kill the engine I may have to drive it another 100 miles before it reoccurs. I have checked the LED's when it occured before shutting off but none were lit. And all the LED's do Illuminate when key switch is first turned on so they are working.

I can't find anything on Honda's site.
I can search for a part number, but this is what I need.

Hi,

The only problem in putting a cheep filter before the fuel pump will cause two problems.

1) being a fuel-injected engine the fuel is always flowing through the fuel system and back to the tank. This will clog a standard cheep fuel filter in a very short time. If this were to go on unchecked for to long it will lean out the fuel mixture and damage the engine from a lean misfire. More costly then any filter. :(

2) The micron level is much higher in size so it will not help much other then causing # (1) problems.

I hope that this will help you in deciding to replace the fuel filter with only what the LTD or SEI called for. They are the same for booth years. Honda just changed the letter name and paint scheme.

Hello,

The LTD/SEI Fuel Filter has Banjo bolts that attach the fuel lines to the filter. The cabbed fuel filters are just push on line type with a couple of hose clamps. The second thing is that the cabbed fuel filters are made out of plastic and the LTD/SEI are made out of 16 gauge mettle. The reason for mettle is because the FI system is under 50 PSI and the cabbed fuel system is just gravity fed. If you were able to adapt the fuel lines to connect up to the cabbed filter and turn the key on the fuel pressure would EXPLODE the cheep filter and spray gas all over you and the engine. This is a very bad thing, FIRE. I would not want to be around that Bike if this were done. Gas also can cause bad chemical burns to the skin and eyes. Please take my advice and bite the built and pay for the correct one. I would hate to read that you were burned first and lost your eye site or even worse that you are not a part of this world anymore.

We all care very much for each other on this forum. Maybe more on this forum then many others.

Thank You;

Thanks this problem has been fixed for 3 years, my problem was being caused by the fuel filter but it was still occured on long hot rides even after I replaced the filter. The problem went away after I removed my chrome side covers that were traping engine heat around the filter.

Hi,

I am sorry that I did not look at the date when I replied to your problem. I try to help anyone that has a problem with a running trouble that I think that I would be able repair. When I saw your entry and your thought of using a stand red Fuel Filter, it scared me for your safety. It scared me so much that I missed looking at the date. I am glad that it is running now for you.

Good Day;

Not a problem, at the time I was thinking of a pre fuel pump filter so it wouldn't have been a problem do to pressure but you are right it could have starved the pump and caused problems later. I was glad to find out that it was a vapor problem do to over heating the filter. My brother has that bike now and it is still going stong.

Hello,

I am glad to be able to talk to you and I am also glad that the bike is still running well. I will be able to help you in the future if you have any other problems if they arise.

Did anyone confirm that the fuel filter is the same for the 86 honda civic FI engine? Also are the PBL PBR sensors the same??

When I was having problems I asked about the civic filter at the auto parts shop. The filter they showed me had both the in and the out on the same side of the filter the LTD filter has the in on top and the out on the bottom. I suppose it might be possible to make it work but it was not a direct replacement.
