Hi Guys,

Can someone assist please. My 1500 is in storage while I am working away from home. (2months in storage already). I have just got a message that the fuel is leaking from somewhere, dripping from underneath the engine and now the tank is empty. I will investigate next week when I go back home (to get married though). Where on earth will I start looking and where is the most commen places to start looking. I also have no clue on how to dismantle the tank and fairing to inspect everything. Could anybody help me out please. (hey, not with the new wife, leave that for me)

Thanks I will appreciate any assistance. It is a 1988 model and I know this could be a dangerous situation. (fire hazard)?

Hi renier apart from a hole in the tank first off is the bike on the sidestand if so it may be a stuck float valve in one of the carbs and its overflowing into the overflow tubes, your vacume petcock may be faulty and is leaking into the drip tray in the gas cap that has its owen overflow tube also

The vacuum shut off valve (next to the fuel filler) may have a bad diaphragm, and not closing off the flow of fuel from the tank.

For storage, always leave the bike on the center stand.

Make sure the gas hasn't gotten into the crankcase and take out the sparkplugs before spinning the engine over.

Download a manual, it will tell you how to pull tank, if you are not sure if gas came from the tank pull seat, two bolts that hold seat handles on each side, remove fuel pump from top of tank, 6mm nuts 10mm wrench, be sure to mark wires to pump so they go back where they belong, after the pump is remove look in tank with flashlight [torch] and see if there a large amount of rust and if it rusted through the tank replace it.
