I know that my last wing with the mechanical pump needed the petcock off to stop fuel from gravity feeding . Just learned that this may be the same for the electric fuel pumps. Eiother that or my petcock is bad.

I had lots of gas in the crankcase.

Any ideas.

should I just shut it every night.?

You can turn the petcock off and still not fix the true problem. You may need to check your card adjustments[ie; the needle and seat, float height level etc].

If your fuel pump was leaking it through you might not be turning key off or pump is running after engine is stopped.

Float problem (stuck needle or float, punctured float and so on) would be what I'd look at.
