When gas tank is about half full the bike acts like it is running out of gas. At low idle or slow speed the bike will shut off. No gas is being pump when motor is being turn over. The bike will not start until I put gas in it. This doesn't happen with every tank of gas. I have changed the fuel filter. Checked for trash and water in tank, and everything looks good. Help tbutler

when you refill, how much fuel will the tank take?, it could be the fuel gauge or sensor going bad giving you a bad reading. as far as i know the fuel pump on the 1500 is inside the tank and sux the fuel from the bottom

1. The fuel pump functiions for a few seconds after the key is switched then functions again when the engine is running. Pumps are known to fail and may work periodically.
2. Start with the fuel filter.
3. The Auto Fuel shut off is near the fuel cap and is operated by vaccumm. The seals are easy to fix with a kit.
4. Carburetor problem? Try Seafoam in the fuel.
5. Fuel pumps can be replaced with either stock or aftermarket kits. The manual shows how to test the flow of the pump.

I hope that helps for a start. There are many others who will also chime in on this subject.

I have put one gallon of gas in and it would start right up. I immediately go to the gas station and it would take almost two gallons.

I have changed the fuel filter and checked the vaccuum on the auto shutoff. The vaccuum is good when the motor is being turned over. I have also disconnected the fuel line from the fuel filter, turning the key on as well as turning the motor over and no gas is being pushed through the gas line.

Appreciate all who have responded. We will find the problem.

Have a look at your breather tube, if the breather is blocked this will create a vacuum in your tank and may reduce the amount of fuel leaving the tank. Next time it happens just take off the tank cap and then replace it. Just a thought.

i think the only gas you are getting is gravity flow.

make sure the fuel pump is turning on when you turn the key on. Disconnect the fuel line from the inline filter. Turn the key on. Any fuel spray?

The fuel shutoff valve just in front of the gas filler neck, the diaphragm might have a pin hole in it. If it does, the valve won't open all the way. The full tank of fuel may be helping to push fuel through that valve.

I had to rebuild my fuel off valve, the diaphragms are not expensive.
