Having never driven west of Colorado springs area, I suppose there are plenty of fuel stops on 24 and 50? Google indicates 236 miles from Colorado Springs to Montrose. Not Loaded down, that would not be a problem, but loaded might cut me pretty close.
Hey ponymanr, plenty of gas stops and try this short detour for a nice scenic break from the highway:
For those of you inbound to NASSIR 2 via Highway 50 from Pueblo, Colorado or Highway 115 to Highway 50 from Colorado Springs, as you get close toCanon City Colorado, put Skyline Drive into your GPS and take the detour. Going west towards Montrose Skyline Drive makes a right off of 50 just past Canon City and will drop you back into a small residental neighborhood of Canon City, then you can go back out to 50 and be back on you way. (You can go into Canon City and take Skyline Drive from the residential area backto 50 (it parallels 50) - saving the double back, but it might be a llittle harder to find that way.) At any rate, it's a nice, surprising 20 minute (tops) detour and worth the ride. The road is paved, smooth, safe (but skinny) you might see a little loose gravel in the center of the tracks, but minimal, it's a good road. This is a free ride, no admission or anything, worth the twenty minutes or so.
