I live in Colorado and the regular gas here is 85 octane. The manual says to use 87. Is it OK to use the 85 or do I need to stay with 87 octane?

If it says minimum 87 then I would use 87.

If the 85 octane is because of the altitude (I think it is), then you should be fine. Put 87 in as soon as possible when you come downslope.

Just run it!
It won't hurt anything, if bike runs poorly or knocks and pings then move up to more octane, otherwise run it and be happy! LOL

When in CA with my 95SE 2 times gas was 84 Oct. and bike was happy with it.

I ran the 85 octane when I was driving through there, and my bike ran better and I got better mileage with it! I wished they sold it everywhere. But it probably wouldn't work the same as it is for the higher elevations.

You are fine with 85 octane. It is made that way for the elevation you ride in. It burns the same as 87 does at lower elevations.
