I'm a newbie here and to Goldwings in general. I just laid my hands on a '78 GL1000 and am looking to restore it. It's not in too bad a shape, but the simplest fix seems to have me befuddled. I can't get the cover off to put gas in it. The ignition key doesn't fit very well. It turns the cylinder a bit, but not all the way and I can't get it open....to be honest, I'm not sure if it should open from the front or the back...any help would be appreciated and I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. :waving: thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quicl response....WD-40 was my first choice....I've shot it up good and still nothing....I was thinking about just drilling it out, although I'd rather that be a last resort.:baffled:

Thanks for the info...I looked down into the lock with a flashlight and it looks like something might be down in there. I can't get the key all the way in....it will turn, but I don't think it's engaging all the tumblers. I think that may be the problem. If I can't get it I'll go to the locksmiths, but I'm trying to do it myself, you know? Thanks again!

No, no plastic door....it's just all crudded up down there. I think I'm going to have to call a locksmith...although I found a tank cover with key on eBay, so if I win that, I'll just demo the old one off.
