Being a locksmith by trade, I'll suggest to you the following:
Spray some WD-40 or penetrating oil in the cylinder key hole. Push the straw that comes with the spray right in the key hole and flush it out. Sometimes this can take a couple of shots.
GENTLY work the key in and out and side to side.
That usually will do it unless the cylinder is corroded or damaged.
You may also have a badly worn key that is not lining the tumblers up like it should.
If this doesn't do it, post again and I can offer up some additional info.
