Just to bring back an old thread.

I've done my test with gas on the 96, and ran regular gas my entire trip this year, 8,522 klm. Did not notice one ounce of difference from running high octane and that included my high altitude cruises through mountain passes. Thanks guys as you've saved me more than a couple of bucks on this trip. Actualy, my trip cost $416.00 in gas, and at about $.20 per saving on the dollar by running regular works out to saving about $83.00 in gas for the trip. Prices ranged from just over $2.00 to $2.50 a gallon for regular.

I started to use BP (Amaco) 87 and went from 33 MPG to 35.1 MPG around town. My motor seens to start better and run smoother.

Different brands may make a difference due additives, but I really doubt that an increase in mileage would occur with an increase in octane.

Interestingly enough when I was having troubles with my 1200 I decided to try high octane (96) to see if it would help. Made no difference. But when I told the one of very few goldwing mechanics what I had done he wouldn't touch it with 96 in. The bike is designed to run on lower octane fuel. Here that's 91, you should get a smoother ride, more economy and no engine "pinks" on lower octane.
