I am attempting to do an "in-bike" dismantal/rebuildof my 1980 GL1100 clutch

1.I can't figure out how to secure the clutch assy. so I can brake the slotted center nut loose.

2. I have the special slotted nut tool

3. My Hynes manual says to put a wrench on the alternator center bolt but it just unloosened.

4. I don't want to brake or bend or brake 'stuff' so locking the rear tire...or using 'c' clamps seem too risky

Anyone solved this problem?

Help :shock:eeep!!

there is a locking tab washer around the nut. bend up the bent down tabs . put the socket and breaker bar on and give the breaker bar a whack with the bike on the centerstand and in gear. JB

I'm a newbee here...This is a great site!!!! I've found lot of good info....

I'm going to do what you suggested but FYI note the followig:

I've looked very very carefully and apparently the 1980/GL1100 uses a compresson-type washer rather than the more common tabbed-type. Models with the tabbed washer are tourqued to 27-30 lbs Those with the non-tabbed compresson washer (which I have) are tourqued to 44lbs.....

27-30lbs 44lbs
