1981 Interstate, I have the forks off, removed the Allen screw at the bottom and have the aluminum base clamped into a vise on the tabs where the brakes are mounted. I did this a couple years ago, and I'm pretty sure I used the chrome tube as a slide hammer to remove the seal. Of course the circlip and the metal ring are out andI can poke at the seal. All the springs are out and everything out except the seal. I keep slide hammering it, Not getting anywhere on this one, I tried the other fork. Same exact thing! Any advice on an easier way to remove this? I don't have a seal puller, I could get one if that's the only way...

I went on line and ever advise I have says it just come apart, What is up, Here????. Am I to Slide Hammer it until in break everything, is it corroded? Is there a super de-sticker if the seal is stuck

If all the parts have been removed (circlip and ring)just keep using the fork tube as a slide hammer. Took me about 25-30 times just about three weeks ago. I used more force on the second one and got it down to 20-25..... At least that's how my '82 Aspy forks worked.

Wow, Are you certain, it seems really solid when I slide hammer it, not like it it is hitting the seal but like Nylon. I dont want to bust everything but I am replacing the seals

sounds like you are doing it right. some times it takes a bit to break it all loose.

Wow seems maybe some of the ring could still be in grooves, was it really rusty. i did my 82 one was very rusty. it only takes a little peice to stop seal i would use a small pointed driver an scracth the grove other then that mine went easy.

Thanks everyone, I just put some PB Blaster on it, Any other Ideas?, I will try to scratch it to break the corrosion on it. I suppose it doesn't matter what happens to the seal as they will be replaced

None of the metal is above the seal, in fact I can se the spring in the seal, I have tried to do some prying but I didnt want to damage the casing.
