Just started to replace thefork seals on my 86 Gl 1200 and it seems to be missing a few pieces according to the book..Any idea if the foam seal and plastic washer should be there or not? THX a bunch.

They did have a foam washer from the factory. My 1100 had never been replaced and they were in there.

They went between the seal and the dust boot. They were in there as another seal to stop water and dirt and keep a light coat of oil on the sliders I guess.Mine had a bit of gunk on them.

I learned from our local mechanic (worked on wingsabout 30 years) that you just throw them away as being foam they just soaked up the water and dirt making it worse. It it listed as a grease holder on the parts fiche. So you can imagine a grease filled sponge where dirt canget down in over time.

They are right! Throw them away. This threw me the first set I did.. Honda mechanics told me to toss them even if they were in good shape still.
