Hi a/c man, I have not heard of a 1500 frame cracking, they were made of steel. The 1800 frame is made of aluminum and has several recalls for cracks in the frame. Mine is not part of the recall group serial number so I have no personal experience. My Honda dealer has checked it without finding any evidence of cracks. Google GL1800 recall and you should be able to find the list. From what I have heard, Honda has held up their end of responsibility, although I have heard of cases where they did not. Are you looking at a used 1800?

i am on the fence, been looking at them and the HD,i am not ready to pull trigger just yet. the 1500 is still in the runnig,my old 78 1000, still runs we the best of them

If you look at an early 1800 (01-03 I think) you can take the serial# to a dealer and have them check if the recall was done.

If you want to attract attention and 'fit in' the HD would be the choice.
If you want to ride reliably and comfortably, the 1500 can't be beat. But you really already know that don't you?

1500 frames don't crack.

i ride with 4 guys that have them HD's but when we get some where my old 78 gets a lot of attention, and 100 questions, like @ BBQ in AR. last month, did you ride this here? thanks for the info

GL1500 frames don't suffer cracks, but rust might get to them. the swing arm on mine is holed badly and needs to be removed and plated up, or replaced if its too bad.
