GL 1800 using oil

Hi

My bike has 25,000 miles on it. I am finding that I add about 1/4 of a quart of oil every 750 miles or so.

I don't let it run that low but this would work out to about a quart every 3,000 miles. I ride the bike pretty hard but do not abuse it. I think this sounds like excessive consumption. Has anyone experianced this ?? The bike is just one year old and I am sure the first six months it didn't use oil.

Thanks for any thoughts Tom

That is unusual, I have never heard of one using oil. If it is still in warranty take it to the dealer. They will probably want to change the oil and have you drive it a while and come back to verify it.

Mine is a 07 with 30k+ miles. I change oil/filter every 3000 miles. Dosen't use any oil. Also had a 86 1200 with ~90k on the clock and it didn't use any oil. ?????????????

thanks, something is wrong. If I wait 3,000 miles I would be down a quart.

It doesn't leak, must be burning it. I'm not thrilled about leaving it at the dealers durring the summer.

I wouldn't leave it there either until winter if your warranty period is still in effect. Just add some oil once in a while and ride it. 1/2 qt. low won't hurt a thing and that's 1500 miles. Actually a full qt. low won't hurt it, I don't know what the low level on the stick indicates.
Just for curiosity, what oil are you using. When I got my 83 the PO was using Amsoil and it used about 1/2 qt. every 1000 miles. Changed to Castrol and it quit using it.
