HI GIYS ,my problem is with the engine on tick over ,then put the lights on ,after 2 or 3 mines the volt metro drops like a brick to under 11 volts and the engine will stall. The only way to keep it going is to rev to 2000 and hold it there. With light out engine will tick over all day. Just to say when the fan comes on the engine want to die. I am at the end with this bike, if I cannot get this rite I think the bike will go .thinks mike

The bike is a 1979 gl1000:waving:

The charging system on these bikes will not maintain 12 volts at idle if there is any draw other than the ignition. I don't even think it will replenish the battery for what the starter has used till close to 2,000 RPM.
Check out all the wiring connectors between stator and regulator for heat or corrosion.
I don't think the 1000 had the same issue as the later 4 cylinder wings but a bad connection could still be an issue.
