GL1000 Tires

983 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jobe05
On the rear tire of my GL-1000, I only got 5,000mi with the Dunlop 404, even less this time with a Shinko. Hoping to find a mid-priced, longer wearing tire. Mostly taking 50 to 100 mi rides at various speeds. Bags, fairing, etc. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

Bridgestone Spitfires give good service.
Splitting may not be an issue with a lighter bike.
Oh no!!!! Not the tire topic again...

Any longer wearing tire will have less grip than a fast wearing tire. So if you are not a canyon carver, by all means go with a harder compound tire. My 1000 is my toy, it's a rocket compared to either the 1100 or 1200. But of course I think the 1100 actually handles beter than the 1000. But I do want some real grippie tires for the 1000.
I put a michilen continental II on the rear of my 1200 and love it for the ride and handling, only been a couple thousand miles so we will see how they wear.
