I synched the carbs on my '82 the other day. I started the bike and while it was warming up I removed the synch screws from the manifolds and screwed in the vacuum lines that go to my carb-tune. For cylinders 1, 2, 4, when I took the synch screws, out the engine really stumbled, barely kept running, but when I took the screw for 3 out it made very little difference.

I did a compression check and got 150 lbs on each cylinder. I put my timing light on the plug lead for #3 and got a steady blinking. It seems to idle smoothly but maybe it would even if 1 cylinder wasn't firing it would idle pretty good. It accelerates and revs out to redline strongly. All for plugs are nice light grey.

All I can think of is that the idle circuit for cylinder 3 is plugged. The idle mixture screw for #3 has the limiter tab on it and I can turn it from stop to stop and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I think a lot of 'Wings do that. As long as there are no other problems, why risk creating one?
Just keep an eye on the plugs and enjoy the ride.
Yeah, I guess there isn't really a problem; the bike idles pretty good especially after the synch, and it runs strong otherwise. I have never had the carbs apart and don't really want to. I have just run a can of Sea Foam through every 3 or 4 tanks of gas.

Thanks for the response
