When my 'mechanic-in-training' pulled the carbs...they were gross...

Today we pulled them apart, almost every passage was 50% blocked by formagasket...growl snarl...it's not rocket science..

To think, that I've put around 7000kms on her since I gother last sept..andshe ran like the diamond she is, right up till the last trip...it just isn't ceasing to amaze me.

Can't wait to get the carbs back together and sync'd...no doubt my gas mileage will go down...but can't wait to see what kind of power she has when the lungs fill up !

HUGE thanks go out to the good folks here who have supplied the know how and info to let me dive into this without asecond thought !

(specially since I'm basically just overseeing my daughter's work)

again, edited to save space.

Excellent. A good carb refresh will make her purr.

That "mechanic in training" seems to be doing a good job so far. :leprechaun:

That she is, she has the next couple of days off to enjoy some summer fun...then back to the task at hand.
I would have carried on...planned on it...but fell into some whiskey last nite and the world ain't all that sharp today.

Got the carbs finished, installed in no time at all...unfortunately while I was double checking the intakes I broke #1...
even with the crack looming large...I couldn't help it..turned the key...
could smell the gas..could see the crack widening..but she fired..wasn't happy..but she ran..I killed it right away.
The j.b. weld is drying at the moment. Will look for a replacement tomorrow. Just wanted to hear her and couldn't wait.

I once JB welded an exhaust manifold on a Ford F-150 straight six engine. It held for years and was still on there when I sold the truck.

Well, it didn't hold..didn't really expect too much of it but worth a try..worked for fixes on my 850..but that alluminum is pretty crappy.

Checking around for parts atm, the sprogs are off for a week of camping so hopefully I can get the part and install it and tune the motor for when my 'mechanic' returns. She was pretty upset that it failed again while I was out at work yesterday. Going to post a question in the tech forum and see what comes back.
