I have been having intermittent charging problems on my 82 GL1100 for over a year now. The problem usually happens after I have ridden over 200 miles. I have replaced the dogbone fuse and that seemed to work for a while. I found this connection just to the left of the battery which is not in good condition. Could that be causing this issue?

That's the intermittent connector. Whenever charging systems have an intermittent problem, it's usually the intermittent connector.

Cut the three Yellow wires and solder them back together. Does not matter which one goes to which one. You could test the out put for the stator before soldering them together. Several article at the bottom of this page.

Thanks cheaprider

I was worried because I pulled the connection apart and it literally fell apart. I did my very best to cross-mark the wires so they were reconnected properly. Your post seems to indicate it makes no difference. Is that correct? I sincerely appreciate your response and the links.

Makes no difference witch one goes where.
Make sure you trim them back to clean wire, even if you have to add some.
Good solder job, shrink tubing, and wrap with tape to keep them together as a harness.
