I have an 83 Interstate and suddenly I had clutch issues.

I pulled the basket out and found what I perceive to be shims loose. While disassembling, I found 8 gold rivet heads on one of the dampers and nothing on the other one. I also did not find anything lying within the basket housing.

While going through the forum on a previous date, I read at one point about using a standard rivet gun to reset the shims. I have been unable to find any images for the shim placement but assume they seat between the two damper plates. Am I correct, and do they get riveted 8 on one damper and 8 on another? Lastly, if 8 rivets disappeared, how can I retrieve them beyond an oil change?

Thanks for reading my inquiry. Ed

Just leave the damper out and install 2 more steel plates in it's place. The other end of the rivets probably got ground up into powder and mixed with the oil.

Doesn't really matter, 1 inside and one out or both together, whatever.
