Better to get fork oil as there is no way to tell the weight of normal ATF, different makers supply different weight. At least the stuff for the bikes is labelled with the weight.

Also, do you have stock springs or Progressives installed?

I've got regular stock springs.

The reason I asked is that the Progressives displace more oil than stock springs and you'll over fill the tube if you use the OEM recommendation. I just put some in my 83'I and Progressive suggests measuring the oil by checking the level below the top opening with the tube collapsed(bottomed)with 5.5 inches from the top being the max amount of oil. I used 6 inches to be safe and my bike rides firm but not stiff(sounds naughty doesn't it:shock:).

BTW, I believe the OEM manual says to put in ATF but as was mentioned, you're not sure what weight you're getting. I'd say in a pinch you could use ATF from the same bottlebut you may or may not like the ride you get.

I love my Progressives.
