You can tell if the bushes are worn by looking to see if the copper coating is showing through. Those bushes stop the fork tube moving sideways and pulling on the seal.
The bushes are easy to replace with the forks stripped. It's worth replacing them for the peace of mind and you will probably never have to replace them again.
Hi Jeff. BB is right about the Progressives, but you will probably need someone to help you compress them when installing the fork caps. The pressure of the Progresssives is very hard to puish against.
