4844 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Phils a winger at last
my wing has an 18 '' front wheel and have just bought on ebay a front wheel that may be a 19''
will this fit ? any advantage or disadvantage with a 19'' ?

The '80 and '81 used a 19" front wheel, the '82 and '83 used an 18" front wheel.
A lot easier to find and a better selection of 18" tires. Other than that not much difference.
82 and 83 have double piston calliper, 80 and 81 have singles, but I don't know if this creates a problem with the wheels or not. :?

No it does not.
No it does not.
Thanks for that Dave, duly noted in grey matter if it ever comes up again. :claps:
Please note the different size front wheel will affect the accuracy of the speedometer, if you do change the wheel size have it calibrated..
IIRC: The 18" tire used is bigger (fatter) and should have a similar O/D to the 19" tire.

+1 the 110/90x19 is 1.1% bigger in rolling diameter
fitted the 19" wheel that came with discs already fitted, handy as one of mine is ebc solid and one honda genuine ventilated. Wheel fits as you all said it would, problem is my twin pot calipers go about half way down teh disc so will not do a very good job.
Question now is do I strip my discs off the 18 and fit them to the 19
has anyone ever done this ? was hoping for a straight swap on the wheels and the only thing in the 19's favour is it does not have a dent on the rim, the tyre is old and cracked, the discs appear to be good but useless on a twin pot equipped bike
I have a bike rear tyre fitted teh wrong way round on my 18 front, might be my imagination but it dont feel right at low speed and that is why i was looking at another wheel, just didn't think about the sizes of the rim and the discs
