GL1100 Interstate - to - Aspencade? can it be done?

I have the means to obtaining an 1983 Aspencade that no longer runs -

I currently own an 1983 Interstate, that I love... But, I do like the digital dash on Aspencade, I like speakers, digital guages, radio & CB.

I was wondering are all of the parts interchangeable?

Particularly the Digital Dash.. are there any sensors that I would have to remove from the aspy (or) is it all interchangable?

Thanks -

Hey that should be a fairly simple project . Though it will take some time . I'd swap the complete wire harness over to the Interstate . You will need to swap the speedometer parts because the speedometer is elctronic sensor at the wheel for the digital dash . The one thing I am not sure about is with the digital dash ....if it needs extra sensors from the transmission for gear indications .

that and the tach is also different,i am planning on putting my digi dash on my 80 this winter, ive already converted everything else.so ill have a 80 Aspencade minus the compressor..and trac system, but im even thinking of swapping the front and back end over,so it would be a 80 frame and thats about it....lol

yeah that what I was thinking - it may be too much of a project for me, I don't know a darned thing about wiring harnesses..lol

I was hoping it would be a simple swap...

hmmm... maybe I'll just get a decent volt meter guage and put it the blank dash section, I already have the fuel and temp guages.. and the 150mph speedo don't lot bad at all.

Yup, better keep that speedo if you plan on a lot of cruising at 130+ :D

The aspy has been sitting in a shed for the last 15 years and has rusted badly, tires are dry rotted, brake lines froze up, just too much to do to get her back on the road.

besides I love my interstate, she is almost mint.

if it's cheap enough i would still buy it you never know you may find another to combine to make an aspen i would go that route but that is me but i do like that dash from the aspen alot but i won't change mine

ill probably just buy it for the parts, wheels are good, rotors are good, most of the body panels are good, various engine parts are still good, trunks are in good shape - getting it for a song and dance from a good friend.

when i first saw your post i thought its gonna be hard and expensive to collect all the parts, but now you say you have a donor bike, its easy cake, all you have to do is swap parts.. including the gear switch.
