I've just acquired a FREE 1981 goldwing GL1100. It has unfortunately been sitting outside for 5+years but the guy rode it over to my house (backfireing all the way). I've got a couple (80',81') cb650C's and i'm extremely familiar with them (fully rebuilt the 80'), but i'm not familiar with the goldwing at all. Other than the basic stuff (ie plugs, wires, fluid changes etc) what specifics should i look for maintenance wise on an old rusty GL1100. Any help is appreciated. Best Regards.

Thanks for all of the advise. It helps quite a bit. I've got all of the trunks, fairing, and side compartments stripped off of it (sorry guys but they're staying off) and i can already tell you that i need to do the following:

replace the clutch basket (already have one), front and rear suspension, new tires, carbs need cleaned, exhaust really needs replaced but will work for now, timing belts, the rear master cylinder is locked up and needs rebuilt (thats the one thing that i haven't done before), and probably 50 million other things that i can't tell yet.

Can someone tell me about converting the air-assist front end into just using progressive springs. Do I need any special tools to take apart the forks?? I've rebuilt my 650's but they aren't air-assist.

thanks for the quick replies. I'm sure that i'll be posting over the summer while i'm working on it.

regards
