hi guy..another of my goldwing mates has a 1982 us spec gl1100 aspencade...it has 135,000 miles on clock..his problem is that it uses a litre of oil every 1000 miles and has been doing so this year....
the bike doesnt smoke...compression is fine..starts and runs perfect.no lleaks...
i now do all the work to his bike but the garage he used to get it serviced in puts silkolene 15/50w fully synthetic oil in his bike.....to be honest i dont agree with that and i think the high mileage engine may be drinking that type of oil...
i would rather him use a normal or semi synthetic 10/40w oil..castrol magnetec etc...any suggestion?
ps..anyone got a owners manual for this bike for sale?

thanks

Hi

I have a gl1100 with similar mileage. It does use a bit of oil but not 1 litre! Of the oil use is not obvious then it could be from the rings. Might also be worth checking the airbox for signs of old oil contamination and a good look under the bike. I have just had new exhaust guides on both heads. They wore quicker than the inlet. Just athought for someone else with a high miler.
i did a compression test and its within the readings in the workshop manual..underneath bike is dry..no oil leaks anywere..will look at airbox next time my mate comes to see me...i wil be changing the oil for 10/40 grade semi synthetic or normal mineral oil with new filter..will keep you informed..
