The exhaust is up to you as are the crash bars, but I slipped in gravel and the crash bars saved my bike, if they were off I would have done a lot of damage. My foot slipped and it just laid over on the guard saving all of the other goodies. I'd bet that if you post in the wanted, someone has the parts you need. Dana

These guys will put a lot of heat of your feet and ankles. I would try to reattach the heat shields. They are also heavy and will go over easy if you're not careful. Without the guard you could be needing a valve cover. LOL!!!

I'll second Dana's recomendation on the crash guards! I know they're ugly, but so is a buggered up timing belt cover, cam gear, and cam. Valve covers aren't too cheap either.

Good wrenchin,

randy, my chrome shields came loose on the r/side header and I used stainless steel or chrome hose hose clamps to secure them from shaking and rattling. Have to look close to notice the clamps if you position the screw inside.

If you remove the engine guards you lose the protection for your valve covers and probally the fairing as well if it tips over or lays down. With the crash guards in place it usually will recline at about 45 deg. verse's flat down with damage. I've onlydroppedmine down???? times in three years :cool:Keno

I don't know what style engine guards you have but you might scour the classifieds and ebay for some that are more to your taste. I know there are a few different styles out there. As has been said they could save your bike from severe engine damage in a worst case scenario.

I had mine come loose on the right side and pulled the exhaust off and took it to the local muffler shop they welded it back on for $20 and that was a year ago.
I'm with you on the guards I hate them but I'm going to keep them.

Welcome to the forum:waving:

It isn't hard to weld the heat shields back on.

I laid my bike down on the shoulder of the hwy, at between 40 and 50 mph. If it weren't for the crash bars I would have had more than just a few scratches on my fairing. really served their purpose.

GWing Randy, coming home from my sons, I laid my bike down because an IDIOT had his signal on and as I was passing him he decided to turn the opposite way:(. Short story guards saved more then just my bike, it did total my bike and I had 22 staples in my head:shock:! July4, hottest day of the year and I usually wear my shorty helmet but nooo,... I also wielded my heat shields back on too!! Does that mean I'm eligible for the "Dropped Wing Club" :D:D :waving:
